One of music's stranger instruments will feature in the first concert of the 2010 season of "Concerts in the West", at the Marine Theatre, in Lyme Regis.

The theorbo is one of the most bizarre of baroque instruments and The Little Baroque Company (LBC) will bring theirs when they open the 2010 season.

This concert also sees the return of Helen Kruger (violin), who performed with Concerts in the West in 2006. She brings with her an array of international talent: Frouke Mooij (violin/viola), Kinga Gáborjáni (cello/viola da gamba), Manuel Minguillón (theorbo/baroque guitar/lute) and Laura Tivendale (harpsichord).

If you run something as famous as the V&A or the Wallace Collection, you only settle for the best and LBC was chosen by both to celebrate the opening of their new galleries, while amongst their more mundane engagements have been a variety of prestigious festivals around the UK and broadcasts on BBC Radio 3.

Particular amongst LBC's achievements were the Mortimer Award (RAM) in 2007 and the Audience Prize at the new Fenton House Early Keyboard Ensemble Competition.

There are four parts to any successful concert: the venue and the performers, of course, but also the audience and the programme.

Concerts in the West enjoys the support of an enthusiastic and well-informed audience and they will be entertained to a very special programme designed to showcase the great Italian composers of the 17th and 18th centuries, focusing on the most popular instrumental genre of the time, the eagerly consumed trio sonata. Those who go along are in for a very special evening.

They will be at the Marine Theatre, Lyme Regis, on Thursday, February 11, at 7.15pm - call (01297) 442138 for tickets, which cost £10.
