The David West Gallery, in Lyme Regis, will be hosting an exhibition of work by John Wrigglesworth.

John Wrigglesworth.

His landscape and seascape interpretations will be on display at the gallery from Friday, October 16 until Sunday, November 21.

Mr Wrigglesworth is a landscape painter who works directly on location.

The scale of the work is determined by its portability and his aim is to establish a sense of place and the fact of being there.

The work is centred on the coastline, his garden in Blandford and vacation visits to the Mediterranean.

The painting is rarely completed in one sitting; being worked on over a period of time and the paint is freely applied, sometimes thin, as in a watercolour, and at others thick and gestural.

The work usually bears a close resemblance to what is being painted but in others the painting ‘takes over’, reworking itself similar to a musical improvisation.

The gallery, which is situated above the Courtyard Gallery , at the Town Mill, Mill Lane, Lyme Regis, is open from Tuesday to Sunday, bewteen 11am and 4pm, and entrance is free.
