Lyme Regis theatre to celebrate Dame Vera's centenary
PUBLISHED: 17:00 31 May 2017
The Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis will be stepping back in time to the sound of air raid sirens and wartime rationing as it marks the birthday of the 'Forces Sweetheart' Dame Vera Lynn.
A Nightingale Sang in Marine Square will be on Saturday, August 19, at 7pm, with tribute singer Samantha, who has the title role in The Vera Lynn Story currently touring the UK, who will make you want to keep the home fires burning as we stroll back to the 1940s.
On arrival you will receive a complimentary drink served in the Officers’ Mess, kindly donated by Conker Gin and the themed bar will be open all evening.
To keep those hunger pangs at bay, a picnic bag containing your rations for the evening will be provided by the Wrens and other NAAFI staff.
With the cheerful songs and JiveSwing Stroll, this centenary celebration will be a night to remember and organisers hope as many people as possible will get into the spirit of things and turn up in uniform or 1940s dress.
To help you decide, Colmers Hill Fashion based at Symondsbury Manor Yard (www.colmershill.com) is offering a 10 per cent discount to all ticket holders.
This is part of a major fundraising initiative to help towards the refurbishment programme and to maintain and preserve the Marine Theatre.
To register your interest and to be added to the guest list (ticket price to be confirmed), please contact the Marine Theatre on 01297 442394 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
