This year, the annual Honiton Festival promises something to please most musical tastes with concerts by a diverse range of performers.

This year, the annual Honiton Festival promises something to please most musical tastes with concerts by a diverse range of performers.

World-famous pianist Dmitri Alexeyev and the popular Radio 4 trio Instant Sunshine will both be appearing during the week.

Art exhibitions in and around Honiton will complement the event.

The Honiton Festival is also honoured to announce for 2009 its first annual patron, the international soprano Sarah Walker CBE, whose flamboyant flag-waving Britannia will be familiar to audiences from The Last Night of The Proms.

On Tuesday, May 5, Crispian Steele-Perkins, on trumpet and Ian Le Grice, on the organ will perform music by Purcell, Stanley, Handel, Haydn and Mozart at St Michael's, Cotleigh. It takes place at 7.30pm.

There will also be an exhibition of Bronwen Gundry abstract paintings shown for one night only, to accompany this concert.

On Thursday, May 7, Instant Sunshine, Radio 4 stalwarts, perform original humorous songs in the tradition of Noel Coward and Flanders & Swann.

This will be at St Paul's, Honiton, at 7.30pm.

The following day, Hannah Marcinowicz, on saxophone, and Daniel Swain, on piano, will perform works by JS Bach, Greig, Debussy, Dubois and Demersseman and include a modern piece entitled Leonardo's Dream, which was specially commissioned by Hannah from Giles Swayne.

This will also take place at St Paul's, at 1pm.

The world-famous Russian pianist Dmitri Alexeyev, will give an evening recital drawn from a selection of pieces by Schumann and Chopin.

This will take place at St Paul's, Honiton, at 7.30pm, on Saturday, May 9.

There will also be an exhibition at the Thelma Hulbert gallery of selected works by established and emerging South West artists, which will run from May 9 to June 27, with the gallery open between 10am and 4pm, Wednesday to Saturday.
