A FAMOUS name from the world of jazz will be making an appearance in Stockland.

Cleveland Watkiss will be playing at St Michael and All Angels Church, Stockland, this weekend.

Cleveland, who was an original member of the influential Jazz Warriors big band alongside Courtney Pine, will be performing a show in the village after playing at the London Jazz Festival.

The first half will feature Cleveland's solo voice piece, Vocal Suite, in which he performs acappella vocal improvisations with a breath-taking vocal range that makes seamless links between musical cultures. The second half of the show features a set from Cleveland's Jazz Trio, CWT, with Mark Hodgson on bass and Shaney Forbes on drums. CWT perform standards and originals not usually associated with singers, with Cleveland's highly original jazz scatting to the fore.

Tickets for the event, on Saturday, December 6, at 7.30pm, costing £9 for adults, £5 for children, are available from Wendy on (01404) 881207.

He will also host an afternoon Vocal Workshop, for which places are limited. Details from Wendy.
