PLANNING permission to build 66 houses in Duke's Way, Axminster was refused by East Devon District Council.

The council ruled the application by Betterment Properties Ltd needed to make amendments before it could be accepted, during the development control committee on Tuesday (December 9).

Councillors listed a lack of a flood risk assessment, inadequate landscaping and monetary contributions for the local community among their reasons for refusal.

The applicant's proposal for 41 houses in Phase One of its scheme was accepted over two years ago. The current application proposes a mix of two and three storey developments, linked and detached.
