Meeting proposed for new play-only drama group

A new drama group is being proposed for Honiton, with a focus on plays.

It is the idea of Siobhan Mccoulough, who is arranging to hold a meeting for like-minded people later this month.

She said: “My passion is for plays and prose. Although musicals are great fun, I prefer involving myself in straight plays.

She said she would like to add to the arts scene with a ‘play-only’ focused group, with the aim of discussing ideas and seeing how the group could develop.

She said: “There are 13 of us so far, and with a smallish established group it will be a start up and see where we go from there.

“What I love about drama and performance is the diversity of skills we all have and I am keen to find out what is liked and what skills people have, including where they would like to practise and develop in a supportive environment.”

She suggested that those involved could put their ideas forward for plays and the group could try out some simple acting techniques and work with monologues in a supportive environment as a good way to practise.

Siobhan said: “This is a great way to scale where our talents lie, I can help guide this with many confidence building performance workshops and games up my sleeve!

“For those that kindly expressed an interest in supporting set design, prompting, and sound and lighting, they will of course will be welcome to these workshops.

“If we then decide on a play we would like to produce, I will then move on to looking for a rehearsal space and performance venue to debut. This will take some marketing and promotion skills on what will be a very small budget initially.”

Siobhan has booked a table at the Grazing Cow on Saturday, September 22, at noon, under the name ‘new drama group’ for anyone who would like to go along or they can or contact her on or 07717 210902.
