This year's repertory play season has opened in Sidmouth and there's plenty to come for theatre fans.

Award-winning West End producer Paul Taylor-Mills has raised the curtain on his popular summer play festival at Sidmouth’s Manor Pavilion Theatre.

His three-month run of productions opened on Thursday, June 22.

Season tickets went on sale last month and the box office took £14,000 in the first four hours of trading.

The theatre – owned and managed by East Devon District Council (EDDC) – is the last in the UK to offer a season of repertory productions that change every week from June to September.

Theatregoers can enjoy 12 productions in as many weeks, with classics including House Guest and Dial M for Murder.

The 2017 season will feature:

■ Thursday, June 29 - Wednesday, July 5: Murder in Company by Philip King and John Bolland, Thursday, July 6 - Wednesday, July 12: The Odd Couple by Neil Simon and Thursday, July 13 - Wednesday, July 19: Ladies in Lavender by Sean McKenna based on the screenplay by Charles Dance.
