A woman from Willand is still appealing for generators she can send to a friend helping the humanatrian effort in Ukraine.

Geraldine Ogle has donated seven generators to Ukraine. She is now appealing for people to donate more which she can then send to the village of Chernigov in north eastern Ukraine to the north of Kiev.

Geraldine Ogle told the Herald: "In response to the article in the Herald, I have had an amazing response with many people in the community offering pre-loved generators.

"Seven generators were donated which I am very grateful for and are due to be delivered on January 27.

"I am still collecting and generators are now the most wanted aid to be sent to Ukraine and therefore have priority with transportation more than clothing and food.

"If anyone wishes to help but does not have a generator to donate but would like to help towards the transportation of these I can put them in contact with those people who are helping me to get them to Ukraine.

"The Ukrainian winter is much longer and harsher than ours so I will still be continuing to source the generators for  some time to come."

"I would also like to thank everyone who has supported me in this effort, the wonderful people who have donated, a friend who has help to store them for me, and others who have helped me to get them transported to Ukraine, I am very grateful."

Geraldine's friend is currently residing in Uffculme working as an professional engineer working locally and sending money back to his family in Chernigov.

The town was one of the first to be invaded by Russia in February. There is still constant shelling and there is sparse and intermittent electricity. Temperatures are already sub-zero and could reach minus 20 degrees this winter.

Without generators, people will have virtually no power or ability to withstand the bitter temperatures of winter or be able to carry out the basics.
